Reviews
This is definitely the upscale restaurant of Ripon. The shape of the building and the decor make you feel like you're out of town somewhere. We went on a Saturday night. They had a guy there playing guitar and he was killing it. Our server was friendly and attentive. Looking at the menu, I feel like some things are a little over priced. There are definitely options if money is no object and options for the more money conscious. The wife and I split the grilled chicken pizza and chicken Alfredo. The pizza is priced good for the quality. The chicken Alfredo was good, but a bit overpriced for what you get in my opinion. All in all, we had a good experience. We will definitely go back again sometime.
I have always wanted to try this place since I moved to the Central Valley. I saw several comments on the wait time and saltiness of the food, but I think it personally depends on what you order. Certain meals, depending on the type of meat etc can be salty- such as salami or prosciutto meats. My husband and I ordered the grilled chicken fettuccine and the margarita pizza. The chicken fettuccine is truly probably the best I have had and same goes for the margarita pizza- the tomato sauce was heavenly, juicy, and fresh, As for cocktails I had the Fina colada- delicious! My husband had the garden party which was refreshing but the lemon notes are very forward. The ambience - is absolutely beautiful and service great! I will be back, thank you Fina!
We had a wonderful evening at Fina--really enjoyed the ambience and delicious food. The service was good the live guitarist was also a great touch! The complimentary focaccia bread was a delicious start. I had the Parmesan Crusted Sea Bass with the truffle potato and it was perfect. I tried a few of the other dishes at the table and enjoyed them all. We were too full for dessert but are excited to go back and try some of the other options.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Fina. I had no reservations still they were welcoming, they did have a full house so they offered outdoors Which ended up being really nice and we enjoyed their live entertainment. We were looking for a quite and romantic ambience and happy to say we did receive that. Our order was taken care of in a timely manner, we were not forgotten, and staff always with a smile. The presentation of our meals very satisfactory the taste even better. Their stuffed ravioli DELICIOUS . This is a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion without needing to go downtown in Modesto. The area is very safe. I recommend making a reservation since weather changing not sure if patio area still opened. Oh i almost forgot their dessert so good I ordered the crème brûlée
This was the third and final time getting to visit Fina By John Surla. I was sad to hear that they were selling out so I made a reservation as quickly as possible. I had been meaning to come back for quite some time so it's sad that it had to be under these circumstances. Without getting too in-depth, The first time I had gone with a group of friends and it was phenomenal (5 star not sure if I reviewed back then). The second time I went was for my dad's birthday and it was less than spectacular, to the point of disappointing (3 star). Through word of mouth I had heard it was slowly declining in quality. Combine that with my previous experience and you can see why I was waiting for a while to go back. Now for this visit, I ordered the Meatball Polenta Appetizer. The first time that I tried it, it was one of my favorite appetizers. This time around it was pretty good but you could tell it was lacking a little something. It just didn't quite have that X Factor. I will say however that the fresh focaccia paired perfectly with this. On to the main entrees, I ordered the Maine Lobster Ravioli and my friend ordered the Ribeye. My friend who is usually easily impressed did not really have much to say which speaks volumes. As for my Lobster Ravioli, it was so decadent and delicious. I loved it, then liked it. The problem was that it was very one note with nothing to balance it out. So eventually it started to overpower me. We decided to pass on dessert and get ice cream at a spot a few minutes away. Wish they were able to reach the level of excellence that they had when I first went but this visit wasn't a bad send-off at all. Still glad I got to visit one last time. If there's anything one can learn from this, it's that if you've got that restaurant you've been dying to try, that restaurant that you loved but declined, that restaurant you're not sure about, make the time and give it a try. You never know if it will be there tomorrow.
